One thing I’m a stickler on for myself and my family is the health of our teeth. I just finished reading an article which said if you were only able to pay attention to the state one part of your body the mouth would have it. So how do we get healthy dental habits? Start young and make sure to brushy brush and flossy floss. For those with little ones, we know the idea of scrubbing down the toothums can be a battle but not anymore. Tanner’s Tasty Paste is a toothpaste created by pediatric dentist and mom Jannelle Holden, DDS and it is pure genius.

What makes kids get excited? Ice cream of course! Dr. Holden has patients from infants to teens and was able to determine that if she made a yummier toothpaste for the younger crowd they would brush more so Tanner’s Tasty Paste was invented. Cha Cha Chocolate tastes like chocolate ice cream, Banilla Bling is the flavor of vanilla ice cream, and BlingSicle is vanilla and orange ice cream flavored. These three toothpastes have the active ingredient of Sodium Fluoride to beat down those activities and are free of Saccharin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and any artificial colors and flavors. There is also Baby Bling which is a vanilla ice cream flavored paste which is fluoride and saccharin free and it’s okay if the little one swallows it. It also contains Xylitol which is a natural sweetener that helps reduce plaque.

We tried out the Banilla Bling and it tastes so good you want to eat it, no joke. In my husband’s words, it tastes like the white stuff in Oreo cookies. More importantly it works awesome. No gritty feeling after brushing and your mouth feels fresh and clean for sure. I tend to have sensitive gums and teeth and Tanner’s Tasty Paste didn’t cause any issues for me. The only problem you may have is making sure the little ones don’t swallow it because it tastes so dang good. If you do worry about this, just give them the Baby Bling. Seriously, I’ve been using a certain brand for the last ten or so years and have never budged on switching because I’ve remained cavity free for life but Tanner’s Tasty Paste will be our family’s new toothpaste. I trust the ingredients and the fact that a mom and pediatric dentist is behind it, I’m all for it.

A few months ago I decided it was time to find a new shampoo since my old one wasn’t cutting it. Three things I was looking for was high-quality, organic, and something my husband would use too. I stumbled across Tonic Hair Care and was super excited to see the company was in my own backyard and their products were geared towards those who love to spend their time in the water and still want healthy hair and skin which can be difficult with the wear and tear of salt and chlorine. Also, their hair care line is non-toxic and environmentally friendly which is key. I contacted the founder of Tonic Hair Care, Lauren Otonicar, and she graciously offered up some product for us to tryout and to giveaway. We were given both the Threesome Tonic and the Luster Tonic and Simple and Posh likes to use products for a few weeks before giving our honest opinion so here goes. Tonic is fabulous.

The Threesome Tonic is a 3-in-1 product, meaning a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The scent is very neutral with just a hint of peppermint and tea tree oil and barely leaves the fresh smell behind after washing. The lather is there but it’s not too big. A definite sign of a quality product. The true test was how the hair felt after a few days in the pool and Tonic restored the moisture in both my locks and skin. Not to be too graphic but some hair products build up nasty gunk in your scalp and Tonic does the opposite and truly cleanses it. My husband used Threesome Tonic after a couple surf sessions and agreed with me on how great it works and it’s definitely neutral enough for guys and gals. An 8 oz bottle is $12 and well-worth the price. One at home and one in the gym/beach/pool bag, and you’re set. It’s not only a good product but multi-functional which we love at Simple and Posh.

The second product we used was the Luster Tonic and I’m addicted to this stuff. Seriously addicted. It’s a spray leave-in conditioner made with aloe vera and grapeseed oil and it has UV inhibitors to prevent damage from the sun, chlorine, and salt. It can also be used as a moisturizer and it smells sooo good that you will ditch all of your other lotions and crèmes. Again, it’s gender neutral and guys, you won’t be smelling girly. It really just smells like summertime and don’t you want to smell like summer all of the time? The Luster Tonic works awesome if you spray it in your hair before a day at the pool or beach. One of the things salt water does to my hair is create massive tangles and the Luster Tonic prevented this from happening. Tonic Hair Care products are geared towards those who spend time in the sun and water but I really think the Luster Tonic is a must-have for everyone who just wants an excellent leave-in conditioner and the fact that it’s an awesome skin moisturizer is just a bonus. $14 for an 8 oz. bottle of good stuff.

We love the story of how Lauren created Tonic to help give back to the environment and Tonic products are free of parabens, sulfates, animal by-products, and are not tested on animals. I am very careful on what I use on our baby and I feel completely comfortable lathering our little one up with Tonic. I discovered Alaska Glacial Mud Co. when I was scouting out new products for a spa day at home and really wanted to try their Mud Masque. I was born and raised for part of my childhood in Alaska and I know how pure the air and water is there so I figured a facial mask made from the clean earth of the Last Frontier would be a healthy treat for my skin. I contacted Alaska Glacial Mud Co. and they were awesome enough to send me the Vanilla-Lavender Mud Masque and an application brush to try out. The Mud Masque is made from the clay of the Copper River Delta which is the largest contiguous wetland on the Pacific Coast of North America and is home to gorgeous wildlife like bald eagles, moose, bears, and salmon. The Mud Masque also contains organic goodies like kelp, elderflower, cranberry and blueberry and is fortified with Vitamin E and B5. Each of these ingredients do different things such as moisturize, regenerate, and soothe. There are no parabens or synthetics so it is safe for your body. After I put the little one down for the night, I used the application brush to apply the mask and left it on for the instructed 15 minutes. Even though the mask was dry when it came time to remove it, my face wasn’t frozen like a lot of masks tend to do which was nice. When washing it off, the tiny granules of the clay exfoliate your skin so you’re not only getting the hydration of the clay but you’re also removing the dry, old layers. I have normal but sensitive skin and it didn’t cause any irritation (made sure to do a test patch first!) and after patting my face dry I noticed an immediate improvement in the softness of my skin and a healthy pink tone in my cheeks. I definitely felt a tightening in my pores which is always a good thing. I tend to breakout after using a new facial product but two days later my skin still has the rosy glow and feels super smooth and I have no irritations to report. I also applied it to my hands which became really chapped from the dry weather and it worked wonders on healing my cracked skin. The Mud Masque from Alaska Glacial Mud Co. is a natural and purifying product that should be added to everyone’s beauty routine. When ERGObaby offered me one of their baby carriers to try out, I jumped at the chance as I’m a huge fan of wearing my little munchkin. Even though he’s only 13 weeks old, we’ve already gone through four types of baby carriers and the ERGO is our fifth and final as the search is over for the perfect one. The ERGO is a soft carrier that can hold a newborn up to toddler age and is super versatile. Just snap on the ERGO in the front for the wee ones and when they get bigger, strap the ERGO on the back and the toddlers will love it. You can even use the ERGO in the hip-carrier position. We tried the ERGObaby for two straight days and here is why we loved it so much. First, it is so comfortable to wear baby, you almost forget you have something buckled around your waist and shoulders. The fabric is really soft (we tried the organic line) and the way the ERGO is designed, the weight of the baby is kept off of your lower back so no straining. Instead the weight is evenly distributed to the hips and shoulders. We loved the fact that little one’s legs weren’t flailing around and he was supported by our bodies. One of my biggest worries when wearing our baby is that it’s somehow going to affect his growth and posture but I know with the ERGO this isn’t going to happen. My husband and I are both average height and it fits us great but it’s good to know that it works on adults from 5’0 to 6’4”. So mommy and daddy were loving the ERGO, how did the little guy like it? He is a really, really long baby so it’s hard to get him comfortable in a carrier but it wasn’t a problem with the ERGO. Since he’s on the big side for his age we didn’t need the infant insert which is for babies 7 to 15 pounds. He was all about the ERGO and loved the sitting position he was in and how close he was to the two of us. He is a cat napper and the ERGObaby turned those 10 minute naps into half hour ones which meant happy baby, happy parents. We truly think the ERGO and his positioning in it was soothing and lead to him sleeping better at night as well….huge bonus!! We had some rain the weekend we were trying it out and he loved the hood to protect his precious little head. Again, super soft on baby’s skin. Okay, so those are the main reasons we’re convinced there is no better baby carrier than the ERGO but here are some extra ones. Easy to wash, throw it in the washing machine on cold and dry on low and all clean again. You can get tons more stuff done around the house when wearing your babe in an ERGO. ERGObaby has lots of accessories you can purchase to add to your ERGO experience. The ERGObaby definitely saves you money in the long run since it can be used from birth til toddler age unlike other baby carriers. It’s really well-made so you can use it for your next kid or two or three kids. We already know when it comes time to have a second little one, we won’t be buying a double stroller. We’ll just put one in the ERGO and the other in the stroller we already have so we’ll be saving money there. Need one more reason to love the ERGO?
