Tonic Hair Care
A few months ago I decided it was time to find a new shampoo since my old one wasn’t cutting it. Three things I was looking for was high-quality, organic, and something my husband would use too. I stumbled across Tonic Hair Care and was super excited to see the company was in my own backyard and their products were geared towards those who love to spend their time in the water and still want healthy hair and skin which can be difficult with the wear and tear of salt and chlorine. Also, their hair care line is non-toxic and environmentally friendly which is key. I contacted the founder of Tonic Hair Care, Lauren Otonicar, and she graciously offered up some product for us to tryout and to giveaway. We were given both the Threesome Tonic and the Luster Tonic and Simple and Posh likes to use products for a few weeks before giving our honest opinion so here goes. Tonic is fabulous.
The Threesome Tonic is a 3-in-1 product, meaning a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The scent is very neutral with just a hint of peppermint and tea tree oil and barely leaves the fresh smell behind after washing. The lather is there but it’s not too big. A definite sign of a quality product. The true test was how the hair felt after a few days in the pool and Tonic restored the moisture in both my locks and skin. Not to be too graphic but some hair products build up nasty gunk in your scalp and Tonic does the opposite and truly cleanses it. My husband used Threesome Tonic after a couple surf sessions and agreed with me on how great it works and it’s definitely neutral enough for guys and gals. An 8 oz bottle is $12 and well-worth the price. One at home and one in the gym/beach/pool bag, and you’re set. It’s not only a good product but multi-functional which we love at Simple and Posh.
The second product we used was the Luster Tonic and I’m addicted to this stuff. Seriously addicted. It’s a spray leave-in conditioner made with aloe vera and grapeseed oil and it has UV inhibitors to prevent damage from the sun, chlorine, and salt. It can also be used as a moisturizer and it smells sooo good that you will ditch all of your other lotions and crèmes. Again, it’s gender neutral and guys, you won’t be smelling girly. It really just smells like summertime and don’t you want to smell like summer all of the time? The Luster Tonic works awesome if you spray it in your hair before a day at the pool or beach. One of the things salt water does to my hair is create massive tangles and the Luster Tonic prevented this from happening. Tonic Hair Care products are geared towards those who spend time in the sun and water but I really think the Luster Tonic is a must-have for everyone who just wants an excellent leave-in conditioner and the fact that it’s an awesome skin moisturizer is just a bonus. $14 for an 8 oz. bottle of good stuff.
We love the story of how Lauren created Tonic to help give back to the environment and Tonic products are free of parabens, sulfates, animal by-products, and are not tested on animals. I am very careful on what I use on our baby and I feel completely comfortable lathering our little one up with Tonic. Living in Fl, we spend a lot of time in teh sun all year round. We are always at the beach, by our pool, walking through the amusement parks and zoo or playing outside. After a cold winter this summer we will be doing a lot of outdoor activities.
