Every time you pack up the gym bag, beach bag, or lunch box, are you tired of the water bottle taking up too much room and weighing you down? How about when it rolls around the floor of the car and you’re scared it will cause an accident or the sound of it knocking around is just annoying? The Platypus Soft Bottle is a water bottle that is flat when empty and weighs 80% less than a hard water bottle. Roll it up and stash it, then fill it up and it fits in a drink holder or right in your hand. The Platypus is BPA-free and has a regular Closure Cap or a HyperFlow cap for when you need your water fast. The cap locks into place so there are no leaks. The Platypus Soft Bottle comes in three sizes, .5 L, 1 L, and 2 L, and is available in six colors, blueberry, raspberry, gray, tangerine, grape, and clear.

We enrolled our little one in Kindermusik when he was just a few months old and it has been so much fun to watch him recognize the songs we sing and hear him laugh when we do the dance moves together. He adores music like a lot of babies and his favorite part of music class and playtime at home is with the instruments. The Hohner 4 Piece Baby Band is perfect for infants who are learning to shake, rattle, and roll. The set comes with a rainbow shaker, a baby maraca, a rattle, and a cage bell. All four allow baby to get a good grip and they’re safe for mouthing which we know they’re guaranteed to do. These perfectly sized instruments with a clear tome come in a vinyl carrying case so you and baby can jam on the road. If you have an older kiddo, check out the Hohner 5 Piece Toddler Band which comes with various noisemakers, xylephone, and a drum. Get your little one’s music career started early with the Baby Band and they may be thanking you at the Grammys someday.

Classical music has been proven to be a stress reliever and the soothing sounds are also supposed stimulate those synapses in our brain. A little Mozart and Bach will do us all some good but it can get a little lackluster after awhile. After discovering David Garrett on a PBS performance, classical music has taken on a whole new meaning. Garrett is a violinist who perfoms the works of the greats, Vivaldi, Schubert, Led Zepplin, and Michael Jackson. His new CD “Rock Symphonies” has a fun mix of the good old classical tunes like Beethoven’s 5th and the more modern stuff like “November Rain” from Guns N Roses and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. This is Garrett’s latest release and is $10 for the CD or $3.99 for the MP3 album. Check out his earlier stuff too and you’ll never look at classical music the same again.

Before Xbox 360, Playstation, and the Wii, there was a little something called the Atari. The simple graphics delivered hours of fun for lots of us, especially when Space Invaders came out. For those of us who miss the days of shooting pixilated aliens and for the others who just like a little something fun in their cool beverage, Fred and Friends Ice Invaders are a fun throwback and a conversation starter at parties. The tray makes 24 aliens and is made of 100% silicone so it’s easy to pop the little buggers out and the tray is oven, dishwasher, and of course freezer safe. Break out the joysticks and make some drinks for the Ice Invaders.

Cooking Light is one of my favorite magazines and it taught me how to create healthy meals with easy to make recipes. Almost everything I cook for my family and dinner parties comes from Cooking Light and now I’m super excited about their new book “First Foods” being released in August. A registered dietician has developed recipes like Lentils with Sweet Potatoes, Avocado Yogurt Dip, and Cheese Broccoli and Potatoes which have all been tested in the Cooking Light Test Kitchen and approved by a panel of babies and toddlers. “First Foods” also teaches the reader on how to help your children move along the stages of eating solids and tips on how to create positive eating habits. You can pre-order this cookbook and healthy eating manual for babies and toddlers right now and the spiral bound book will be shipped on the release date of August 17th.

We eat a ton of avocados in our family but there are many times when we only use half of it and stick the other half in the fridge. The problem with this is that it turns the nasty brown and we end up tossing it which is a waste of good food and puts a damper on meal plans. Problem solved with the Avo Saver from Harold Import Company. The brown stuff happens when it’s exposed to air and the Avo Saver helps to keep this from happening. Just pop in the avocado and when you’re done using it, throw it in the dishwasher for the next use. Bring on the guacamole.

Clutter of the house can lead to clutter of the mind so storage is important. What’s even better is when the storage is good looking and makes the house pretty. The Daisy Crunch Can from Umbra is a canvas storage unit which can be collapsed down til it’s only inches tall and when the can is upright, it has two handles and can hold plenty like clothes, toys, and linens. The Daisy Crunch Can comes in orange, blue, and pink flowers but if daisies aren’t your thing, there are also Striped Crunch Cans in various colors. Umbra also makes a rectangular shaped Crunch Can if you want a different shape for stacking one on top of another. Right now the Daisy Crunch Can is on sale for $5 off and you can grab it for $14.99. Cool going away gift for the college freshman entering the world of dorm life.
