So if Mom and Dad have a Kindle and a NOOK why can’t the kids? The V.Reader is this generation’s Speak N Spell but a whole lot cooler. For ages 3 to 7, the world of reading is introduced through activities on the interactive e-book such as watching a story and reading along or playing a game to learn more about grammar, punctuation, and comprehension. There is even a dictionary of vocab words for each story. The kids will get a kick out of choosing their avatar on the color screen then reading along to Dora, Mickey Mouse, Shrek or Woody. Parents can get in the action by monitoring the reading activity and creating certificates from the V.Reader when certain milestones are hit. Family reading time just got even more fun with the V.Reader.

One of the best holiday gifts I received last year was a collection of lip glosses from Smashbox and they are back this season and they’re at the top of my list (hint, hint). The Wish for the Perfect Pout set has six different glosses and you will use each one of them. I’ve always alternated between the two full-size ones since they’re neutral and when you need a bit more of a color pop, pick out one of the smaller glosses. Love the fact that I never felt the urge to get something new from the lip section of the makeup counter all year because I already had a little of everything with this Smashbox set. Another cool thing is that they will donate $1 for each Smashbox Wish for the Perfect Pout sets sold to Children’s Miracle Network which is the non-profit organization that grants wishes to sick kids. The value of the set is worth $96 but sells for $29 and it’s totally worth it.

With our lives being so busy, we don’t even have time to tie a string around our finger to remind us of the one thousand things on our to-do lists. Let the jewelry do the remembering the Reminder Bow Ring from By Boe. The simple 14k gold-filled ring is both modern and traditional and it’s also a great conversation starter piece when someone asks what you’re trying to remember. Just tell them it’s kind of like a post-it note for your finger and it says you’re really stylish.

Not sure if it’s the constant changing of holiday decorations these days causing dust bunnies or the autumn leaves being tracked into the house but the need for some dirt sucking is imperative. The Black & Decker Cyclonic Cordless DustBuster is a powerful little tool and you’ll be super impressed with its capabilities. Clean those cupboards, baseboards, couch cracks, carseats, highchairs, you get the picture. The Black & Decker Cyclonic is awesome with pet hair which is a huge plus. This DustBuster also comes with a brush attachment and wall mount. We’ve had two other handheld vacs and wish we would’ve found this one first.

It’s not often we review two products from the same company in a week but Burt’s Bees really has it going on when it comes to quality natural products that work wonders. This time we’re talking about the Doctor Burt’s Res-Q Ointment. In this tin is a modern day miracle. Not sure what it is but any boo boo you’ve got, it will be gone after applying this for a few days. The ingredients include Comfry and Allantoin which have healing and anti-inflammatory properties and Lavandin which helps the prevention of scarring. I had a nasty burn on my forearm from sticking it to the inside of the oven and this soothed the ouchie and the road to recovery was much faster than with anything I’ve used before. Amazon.com sells Doctor Burt’s Res-Q Ointment in a pack of three which is ideal because you want to have a few to put in different places like the house, first aid kit, purse, and office desk drawer.

If you love unique jewelry which can be described as vintage nature, you will adore La Contessa from Mary DeMarco. DeMarco studied in Italy and her pieces reflect this influence and they are all so gorgeous and distinct. The necklace featured here is the Bella Fiore and the 25” chain can be made shorter to change the look. There are matching bracelets and earrings to this line from La Contessa as well as other beautiful lines like La Vie en Rose, Earth and Sky, and Octopus Garden which feature owls, bees, dragonflies, sea life, frogs, and birds. We stumbled across the Bella Fiore necklace in a small gift shop and had to have it. La Contessa jewelry is gorgeous and its subtle beauty makes a statement.

We’re not sure what we like more about the Cahoots Owl Oven Mitt, the fact that it’s featuring one of our favorite little creatures or the design of the mitt. Probably both. The aqua, coral. brown, and lavender owls are quirky and fun and complement a modern or traditional kitchen. For those of us who tend to stick our arms too far into the oven, this is the perfect mitt. It’s 14” long with a sleeve to protect your forearm for those dreaded burns. The Cahoots Owl Apron is also available for the cook who loves a matching set.

It’s the time of year when the humidity goes down and your lips start feeling the pain. Treat your chapped lips to Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil and they’ll be smiling again. The pomegranate oil is a cure-all for dryness and it’s also an antioxidant. We’ve tried all kinds of lip balms and chapsticks and this one is the best by far. The Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm is extremely hydrating and usually brings your lips back to normal after one coating. We suggest buying a few and sticking them around in different places so you’re never without one this fall and winter.
